Even overclockers need a hero...

It's almost as if Tom Clancy will put his name to anything and it doesn't look like he's going to stop at ninety percent of Ubisoft's latest output either. Tom Clancy's BorX tells the story of a lone overclocker looking to get the most out of his rig in the face of an escalating terrorist threat in a near-future, yet somehow incredibly tedious, setting.

Our hero, the Winch, must clock his prcoessor above 9.7GHz to unlock the secret code that  will allow him to uncover the proof he needs to save the world. Locked in his PC are the plans of the Russians/Welsh alliance who're plotting to overthrow the US government. If he fails then Sam Fisher himself will die at the hands of religious fundalmentalists. If he succeeds then he will save the free world. And Sean Connery in his sub.

The complex, interweaving plot tells a story as old as time and is sure to once and for all finish the argument as to whether gaming can be called an artform. With incredible, photo-realistic graphics (check out the screenshots above) BorX is a rip-roaring ride into the exciting world of voltage tweaking, CPU lapping and international espionage. You'll never look at a motherboard the same way again.

  • Look at that thing on the cover! What is it? A nuclear power station? A Combine base from Half-Life 2? A rejected robot from Transforminators? No, it's a PC! A hulking great compartmentalised beast of a PC. In ten years, all PCs will look like this. Even your Mum's. Adam Oxford's produced a complete guide to future tech, so you'll know exactly what to spend your cash on to build the PC of the future.

Of course, the most important part of your PC is the CPU. There are a fair few bargains out there from AMD and Intel. Jeremy Laird has given them a run for their money, and written masses on each and every one. An essential guide for now, and the future. Jeremy also tried Intel's mobile Core i7 and Core i5 chips, which feature integrated GPUs and will be heading to a laptop near you soon.
