Steamin' Discounts

I received a pleasant surprise when I arrived at work this morning: a close friend had bought me a copy of GRID on Steam. "How incredibly generous," I thought to myself, "what could have prompted him to make such a selfless move?"

I checked the Steam site, and as part of Steam's five-day-long one-day-only sale it turns out GRID is only £3.74 via the digital download service. Still a generous move, but I am slightly disappointed. IS THAT HOW MUCH I'M WORTH TO YOU AS A FRIEND, JAMES? £3.74?

Had he never wanted me to speak to him again, he could have got me Osmos for £2. Or if he'd splashed out a bit more, he could have got me the underrated Far Cry 2: Fortunes Edition for £9.99, superhero MMO Champions Online for £12.49, post-apocalyptic MMO Fallen Earth for £14.97, the ace stealth fighter Batman: Arkham Asylum for £14.99 or the brilliant RPG Dragon Age Origins for £22.49.

He could have gone full-generosity and got me the 16-game LucasArts Premier pack (including Monkey Island: Special Edition and Knights of the Old Republic) for £34.99, or the THQ Complete pack (including Red Faction: Guerilla and STALKER) for £26.49. If he wanted to be my BFF, he could have got me the whole lot.

Keep an eye on the Steam site for upcoming deals - there's going to be a different selection of discounted games on there every day. Awesomeness.

  • What am I meant to be doing? Why am I here? Who are you? WHAT YEAR IS IT? WHO'S THE PRESIDENT? Ah, my memory seems to have failed. Fortunately, if I go into the shop and by PC Format, there's a complete guide to choosing new memory. We've picked 12 of the best dual and triple-channel sticks and given them a run for their money.

While we're on the subject of running for money, Dexter made me run round the office in my pants chasing a fiver the other day. That's right, I've got an office in my pants. Anyway, other reviews we've got this issue include Intel's latest Core i5 processor, a couple of souper-douper laptops, a touchscreen screen and an awesome wheel and pedal combo.
