PC Format first dibs* - Boingo

Whilst in Sweden, we were introduced to various nominees for the Swedish Game Awards. There was Flipside of the Divine, an oddball platformer; A Wikiped's Tale, which I can't tell you anything about because there was no actual footage of gameplay; and Boingo, which is a cute bouncy-platformer-puzzler-type-affair. I think genre-defying is a better word to use.

Of the three games, Boingo really stood out with its unique artistic style and clever gameplay. But, in a move to match the 2000 US presidential elections, Flipside of the Divine won first prize. Boingo was robbed.

Words really can't do justice to just how awesome Boingo is, it's utterly compulsive, and the central Crysis-esque mouse-gesture based mechanic soon becomes second nature. There's also an easy-to-use level editor in the pipeline.

Boingo might not be quite a polished as the likes of World of Goo, but it does seem like the kind of low-budget game that will really grab attention in the coming year. It's only in beta at the moment, so it is a tad buggy and crashy. You can download the demo here.

*I just want to point out that this seems to be the first time Boingo has been covered by any games website, bar the ace Indie Games blog. This gives me permission to be incredibly smug for the rest of the day.
