I love Modern Warfare 2. I thoroughly enjoyed the (short) single player campaign and I thought the implementation of the multiplayer system, though contentious, was actually pretty good. That was then though, and as time has gone by the IWNet has proven itself time and time again to not be all it's cracked up to be.
We've had problems just getting on to games without the damned thing lying to our faces. Dexter and I were in a party t'other day, for example, when I was kicked from a lobby and told that the game lobby had closed. Not so as Dexter was still sitting there and then got into the game and was running around shooting people in a game that according to IWNet had been closed. I even got to join it by the admittedly useful Steam community buttons.

But that's not the thing that's really got my goat about MW2 at the moment. Oh no, it's the way it stores your character info. Or rather, the way it doesn't.
I was all for the server-side storage of your character. I'd had issues with the original Modern Warfare online when a stupid ex-housemate decided to start playing with my machine while I wasn't around and somehow mechanically b0rked my main hard drive. I assumed he must've been sticking fleshy things in it, could be the only explanation. Anyways, as well as a load of other game saves, including my first Oscuro's Oblvion adventure, I lost all the character info for my CoD4 persona, including my never-to-be-repeated 17-man killstreak.

So keeping that all online sounded great. Great too because I split my gaming time between the office and my home machines. Unfortunately I've started noticing discrepancies between my home stats and my office stats, strange as they should be the same account. I first noticed when levelling up at home didn't translate - I thought maybe I hadn't shut down properly, but it doesn't seem to matter and shows no signs of syncing back up.
I used to enjoy the 'you've just levelled up' clanger, but now it just means that I'm going to have to go through it all again because IWNet can't be bothered to store the profiles properly. Now I don't know if that new weapon, perk, or class I've created is going to exist when I go home or not. Personally I'm finding the entire IWNet thing an absolute ball ache.
Really feels like they tacked this on at the end because they were told to and didn't bother implementing proper net code to actually get it working correctly on PC. Best experience possible for PC users? Nope, just the same shoddy experience that the console fan bois have been putting up with for years. Great.

Has anyone else noticed problems when switching between machines with the same profile, or is this just me?
Lemme know, peoples.
****EDIT****
Logging on and off MW2 last night (attached to my Steam acc) I noticed it was downloading something just before I booted up. At the end of my gaming last night I then noticed on my 'Games' tab it showed MW2 Multiplayer was 'synching' a small amount of data.
Sure enough my profile is now syncing correctly between my home and work rigs, so is that now the problem fixed.
Anybody still having the sync issues?

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICH! ;)

You think that's a ball
You think that's a ball ache. Try a whole clan? Team <DF> and it's members were die hard fans of CoD4 but MW2, no. Cocked up stats and dodgy IWnet connections have split our clan. All the usual well documented reasons but more than the stats prob is the fact that we can only manage to get 7 in a team and that's after at least half an hour of being dropped from lobbies. Even worse the only game we can then play is ground war. The whole thing is a hash and all our members are switching to BFBC2 when it comes out. Anything produced by IW will meet with heavy scrutiny before purchase in future.

Too late they got the money
Activision dont give a ****. Its such a shame so many pc gamers gave in and bought it. Damage done and they got their money.

Yup, frustrating
My biggest problem is that the game itself is still really good - that's why so many PC gamers have gone out and bought the damned thing.
It's just that there are so many little things that stop it from being the incredible PC game that CoD4 was.

Agreed...
The Game is brilliant... when.. and only when it works! Which frankly isnt very often! :(
I have noticed that not forwarding my ports, so it shows as "NAT: Strict!" ingame oddly has made my game smoother! Probably because IW net is no longer choosing me as the damn host!

MW2
Modern Warfare II is a cracking game but let down by the fact
that the multiplayer has no anticheat and no dedicated servers
and the maps and games are all geared up towards console players, as i have played on both playstation and pc and there in no differance at all, so the maps are geared for consoles users which when used with the crappy console controller means quite a lengthy game as everyone struggle to shoot themselves in the foot, meanwhile back at the pc camp with out tried and tested mouse and keyboard control method we find ourselves basicly having a life expectancy of approx 10 to 20 seconds due to the fact the map is so bloody small and everyone is zipping about and blatting each other.
But the main problem is those among us that for some reason feel the need to cheat and in doing so spoil the game for everyone else.
So are we going to get some sort of anticheat ?
Are we going to get dedicated servers. ?
does Ifinity Ward actually care. ?
lots of love

Its a load of BS
Personally I was like everyone else, looking forward to a awesome game and even excepting a step up from COD4. Now, seriously disappointed. A few new gadgets, short campaign, insane difficult once you choose hard or veteran, no lean, small map of 9v9 (loved the 24v24 on COD4) and no way to get rid of cheaters just pissed me off like hell. IW is a company I will never buy from again.

ERRRRRR....?
I tried to get on Multiplayer the other day. It said my profile was corrupted.
Now, it wasn't like I turned the game off early or used hacks or anything.
Then it happened again, to the third profile I made. Anybody know what's going on???

Fix to profile curruption (Xbox 360)
Now, first off I will assume you have a Xbox 360, because that's where I had the same problem. Also I am assuming that you have Xbox Live. If you do not have a Xbox 360 or XB live, then try looking on the IW forums. If you do have the problem on your Xbox 360, keep reading.
1. Turn on Xbox 350
2. Log out of any profiles you're in
3. Go to 'System', then 'Memory', then 'Gamer Profiles'
4. Go to your gamer profile. It will say underneath it's name 'Corrupted profile' or 'corrupted data' or something like this. IF IT DOES NOT SAY ANYTHING LIKE THIS DO NOT FOLLOW NEXT STEPS. If you do, I don't know what will happen.
5. Select your corrupted gamer profile and select 'delete' (BUT MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE NEXT STEP)
6. SELECT TO >>>ONLY DELETE PROFILE<<< NOT the items (such as saves and achievements)
7. Go to your guide and select 'recover profile'
8. Put in your gamertag (just to be sure, use correct punctuation on it like caps and stuff if you have caps)
9. Log in using your e-mail and password that you use to log into www.xbox.com
10. Select 'accept'
11. Recover your original gamer profile (the first one you had), and get your saves back and everything.
12. Don't play MW2 until someone can find a fix to this problem.
