The interweb tubes are gurgling away with rumours that 3D Realms has shut shop. Shack News appears to have the scoop and is quoting a "reliable source". The 3D Realms site appears completely oblivious to this news and has a news post about Wolfenstein 3D. If it's true - and it's a strange happening if it is since 3D Realms made a big song and dance about hitting it's milestone recently - the 12-odd years of waiting are over for Duke Nukem Forever, which is a relief really. I mean, any game that's been anticipated for that long could never live up to the expectation.
Incidentally, 3D Realms' forums appear to have just gone into meltdown as everyone's trying to find out whether the rumour's true. Since I'm trying to do this on the worst wireless connection on the planet I'll leave it there. Happy rumour-mongering!
UPDATE Take Two are going to release a statement imminently. Me, I'm off to bed!
UPDATE 2 Yep, the closure of 3D Realms has been confirmed by Take Two, who retain the rights to publish Duke Nukem Forever should it ever surface. Thanks GamerFreak.
UPDATE 3 I wish they'd make their minds up! 3D Realms issued a statement on 18th May regarding the on-going wrangle between them and Take-Two. 3D Realms has stated that it's 'not dead', but had no choice but to let the Duke Nukem Forever team go and will "continue to license and co-create games based upon the Duke Nukem franchise". The full 3D Realms statement is on Shacknews.

Confirmed.
There's an update on your first link on the Shacknews website.
I don't think I ever really got into Duke Nukem. It was a very long time ago that I played it, though.

I loved the original
I loved the original DuKe Nukem. Was working as tech support when it was released, and found it the best way of easing the stress at lunch times with my learned colleagues. We had a hoot. Knew the maps inside out, got devious with pipe bombs and trips, would rocket noobs from across the map, and bunny hop our way to relaxation. Times change though, and Duke Nukem For(n)ever never looked more than disappointing. I was prepared to be surprised, but I suspect that this is possibly the best end to the affair... '...and I'm right out of gum.'

I'll my wasted years
All those late nights creating maps so we could have a frag contest at college the next day.
I'm amazed they have stayed in business for so long! They have a long history of actually accomplishing bugger all. Prey was OK but only got finished because they paid another studio to do it.

Like everyone I loved the
Like everyone I loved the old Duke Games (even the old 2D Side Scrollers), but after that evil "3D-2D" platfomer and the rubbish 3rd person games on the consoles, well yeah. I just hope if DNF ever comes out its better than them.
As for Duke Nukem 3D- Thank you Good Old Games ;)
